BIOGRAPHY

Christine Buijs headshot

Christine is an emerging filmmaker who has always had a passion for visual arts, drama, and the weird and wonderful. Prior to graduating from Sheridan College where she studied photography, Christine was passionately involved in theatre and playwriting and became enthralled with storytelling. She won her first playwriting competition through Tarragon Theatre while still in high school, and went on to become a young Playwright-in-Residence at Tarragon.

While studying photography she learned how to become a more visual storyteller. After graduating, she focused on the entertainment and fashion industries, capturing portraits of subjects including Catherine Hardwicke, Karen Black, and Laura Vandervoort.

She gradually incorporated her love of writing, directing and photography and turned to filmmaking. She started by working on music video sets and writing, directing, and shooting her own short films. She was recently selected as one of four directors from across Canada to participate in the prestigious NSI Drama Prize Program with her original comedic short film, DIVORCE PHOTOGRAPHER. She is also a graduate of the Women in the Director’s Chair workshop (2013) and is currently developing her first feature film.
